One that adds full widescreen support to the classic RTS, in addition to several balance changes. Yeah, like buffs to hero units like the Tauren Chieftain and Crypt Lord. Plus, a complete overhaul to the map pool. So then, why the update? Well, Blizzard is known for supporting titles long after release - so there's that. But could this mean a remaster is in the works?
Something along the lines of last year's excellent StarCraft Remastered? We've been hearing about a Warcraft III remaster for quite sometime now - an update that will bring the visuals in-line with modern hardware whilst retaining the same brilliant core mechanics and cinematic RTS story.
Which would explain the rather extensive Warcraft 3 1.29
Patch Notes.
Which in addition to:
Widescreen support added. To prevent stretching there have been changes to the interfaces: Added bookends to the in-game interface. Added black pillars in menus.
Game lobbies expanded to support 24 players. We’ve added 12 new team colors.
Also includes the note "This will be the last version to support Windows XP". Which certainly points to additional versions in the future. Where phasing out Windows XP probably means some form of overhaul to the core game.
Whatever the case may be, this update has me installing Warcraft III right now.
