With the goal to remake the entirety of Fallout 3 as a mod for Fallout 4, the project which we reported on only weeks ago was coming along nicely. But, with discussions that the team was having with Bethesda, in relation to using all the Fallout 3 voices, has unfortunately led to the cancellation of the project.
"Recently we have communicated with Bethesda regarding our planned method to implement the voice acting and other audio from Fallout 3 Into the Capital Wasteland. During this Conversation it became clear our planned approach would raise some serious red flags that we had unfortunately not foreseen. This contact resulted in us changing our methods to attempt to continue working," noted project lead NafNaf_95 via the project's Discord.
"After some thought it appears there is no fully Legal way for us to continue developing the Fallout 3 in Fallout 4 Portion of The Capital Wasteland. Projects like these have always existed in a Gray area of the law but we as a team value our connections with many members of the amazing dev team that is Bethesda Game studios."
Now, the team looked at potentially re-recording all voices with new actors but realised that going down that router would have stripped the project and the Fallout 3 experience of a sizable chunk of its charm.
As per the video above the project was progressing extremely well, with classic sections and iconic characters like Three Dog already present in the build. The team currently working on a similar remake for Fallout: New Vegas came across similar issues and has decided to re-record the voices for that project. On the plus side the Capital Wasteland team has also advised that it's taking a break and won't throw out all the excellent work it has created so far.
Perhaps a text only version would suffice? And then someone could, you know, release a voice pack as a separate download.
