The Surge from publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Deck13 was touted as a sci-fi Dark Souls prior to release. A sentiment that mostly rang true, with the game going on to find success across PC and consoles. And now we've got word that sequel is in the works, with a release window of 2019.

As per the press release players can expect more of everything, plus a brand new and more ambitious environment to explore. And then die in. And then continue exploring. And then die again. And then...

The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original – hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic limb targeting system and deep character progression – while also expanding greatly upon the formula. The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated citywith larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine. Combat is more brutal and tactical than ever, with even more options thanks to an expanded limb targeting system. In addition, more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones give players a vast arsenal to build their character with, in their fight against the array of diverse new enemies and bosses.

We should probably expect to see more of The Surge 2 later in the year. In the meantime why not check out our review of the original.

I'm glad this is happening. The Surge was a good attempt at a Soulslike game and a massive improvement over Lords of the Fallen so I'm excited to see if they keep improving.
