And when we don't throw out the D word lightly here at AusGamers. With the original 2013 PC release of Marvel Heroes including design and input from Diablo veteran David Brevik, it was a free-to-play title that stood out from most. And in a surprise announcement, especially when you consider that Marvel Heroes Omega only just got a console release this year, comes word that it's shutting down.

Which seems to be based on Marvel ending its relationship with developer Gazillion, stating "We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available."

An official statement from the developer has been posted on the game's forum noting that both versions of the game, PC and console, will be shutting down. Soon too.

We’re sad to inform our players and our entire Marvel Heroes family that Marvel Heroes Omega will be shutting down. The Marvel Heroes servers will stay on until Dec 31, 2017, and we’ll be removing real money purchases as soon as possible.
