Celebrating the release of Game of the Year edition of Hitman, the recently troubled and now independent Io-Interactive took the time to confirm the status of the next Hitman game. The post, by CEO Hakan Abrak confirms that "great progress" is being made and that we should expect to find out more next year.

One last thing about our next Hitman game; I want to let you know that we’re making great progress and we have exciting new features and some franchise firsts, which we can’t wait to tell you all about. You’ll have to wait a little longer as we don’t plan to start talking about that until some point in 2018.

This is great news for those of us that have been following the changes at Io-Interactive, where after Square Enix announced plans to cut ties with the studio and effectively try and sell it, came word of Io becoming an indie studio. Retaining the rights to Hitman.

A very happy ending.
