By defeating Chiefs Esports Club in a best-of-five match, 3-1, Dire Wolves were once again crowned champions of the OPL this past weekend. This means that the Dire Wolves will now fly off to Wuhan, China, to represent Oceania in the Play-In Stage at Worlds - where victory there will mean a spot in the group stage.
Which would be historic because they would become the first Oceania team to do so. But, before that happens the Dire Wolves will need to face off against stiff competition from across the globe.
“Dire Wolves and Chiefs have been two of the OPL’s heavyweight teams over the past couple of years. It was an epically, strategic final and we’re excited to see what Dire Wolves can do at Worlds in China,” said Daniel Ringland, Head of Esports at Riot Games Oceania.
They definitely have the talent to do so, as highlighted in the below video from this weeks finals showdown between the Dire Wolves and Chief Esports.
“Chiefs pushed us in the grand final as they have been doing all year. We’ve had to work hard but it will hopefully mean we are able to now do Oceania proud at Worlds” said Curtis “Sharp” Morgan, Dire Wolves Coach. For a full recap of the match-up head here.
