That, well, in its current state looks weird. But impressive. Partnering with Faceware Technologies, basically a camera tracks your eye and mouth movement when using VOIP and then maps those onto your digital Star Citizen character. FOIP! Oh, and the Gamescom presentation had a few other things in it too.

Behold, the magic of Face Tech starring the Onion Knight from Game of Thrones.

And here be the Star Citizen Gamescom presentation in full - which features quite a bit of gameplay from the upcoming Alpha 3.0 build.

It was a disappointment for me, it was such a let down...a lot of the stuff was what we saw last year, Miles Echart in the bar giving you a mission, the mobiglass, etc.yadda, yadda.the Planetary landings promised so much but the lack of any gravity on the demo planet was hilarious. I watched all three days and they had guys sitting 50m off the ground inverted in a Gladius...just sitting there....no atmospheric or physical Newtonian forces at play...the mesh clipping, the desycning, the crashes, the cringeiness of when the chick completely destroyed the Ursa trying to drive up the ramp of the Idris , did I mention the crashes? ....it was bad. Yeh some of the tech they are pursuing might interest, maybe 15% of people, but my god...3.0 is looking very ordinary imo. You could see Roberts sweating bullets as it slowly got worse and worse....I've been a backer since 2012 and this really burst my hype bubble. Also the other big thing that worries me is that they had NOTHING about Squadron 42, zero, zilch..nadda. This is a classic example of when a dev gets bogged down in 'feature creep' 5yrs and over 100 Million spent already? wow.

A tech demo does not a game make.

people who fund this s*** don't really want a final game, they want tech demo's of all the wanky s*** these wankers will string you along with if you give them the money to

it's the same with Kingdom Come: Deliverance

I said it back in the day, they should have committed to an MVP with scope and budget, and stuck all the extra money into a fund.

This thing will never be finished.

This game will be used as a Case Study of Feature Creep in many, many game Dev Courses for years and years to come.

Have they ever released an actual end-to-end playable demo? Or always just a series of little tech demos? All I've ever seen is little tech demos where they show off one feature at a time, but after so many millions of dollars and 5+ years in production, I would have expected something approaching a proper game by now

What would the fund be used for?

Making more game once the MVP was actually finished.

WTF why? Just seems like a pointless waste of time.

they could have just invested it and used the revenue to pay for a small team of developers to constantly improve a small core MVP. I completely 100% agree with Hogfather & have been skeptical for the same reasons.

haha so true. it sounds like it will be a loose collection of technology demos like this that will be loosely smooshed together.

I'd love to be wrong as Wing Commander is one of my all time favourites & this has so much potential. But they should have started it small (IMO as a small sandbox-type game with dedicated servers like Minecraft allowing people to build their own communities, universes, whatever). They could have done this with a small time, let the community figure out what they wanted, absorb/acquire the best projects and make them 'core'.

they could have just.... if there intention was to ever finish the thing and not just gape the scope out with techery nobody would have any reason to be skeptical

do you actually think that the 100m+ dollars is being spent on development?

The 22 MILLION stretch goal was:
Facial Capture System. We’ve researched a technology that uses a series of cameras to capture real heads and import them into the game. This will let the team more easily create a variety of realistic characters. In addition, the technology is mobile enough to allow us to take it on the road and capture select fans during special events! You can learn more about this technology at Infinite-Realities.

lol they're stretching stretch goals. wow

The part at the end would translate nicely to racing games.

Agree the demo looks buggy and looks like they've bitten off more than they can chew. Doubt we'll be seeing a stable 3.0 release until around Xmas going by that..
