Which is of note because BioWare Montreal only had one game under its belt, the divisive Mass Effect Andromeda. It's no secret that development on that game was
plagued with issues, and the critically it was seen as a misstep for the sci-fi franchise. Motive Studios, who are working on the single-player campaign for the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront II, is also located in Montreal.
And was founded by former Ubisoft producer Jade Raymond. In a statement
made to IGN, EA notes: "With multiple major projects in development in Montreal, we are merging BioWare Montreal with Motive Studios. This is an ongoing process, but there are many exciting roles and opportunities for everyone on the team."
Which doesn't really tell us much other than this merger is happening. Perhaps, like with the return of
Casey Hudson, this is to ensure that the team in Montreal are working under an industry veteran - Jade Raymond.
So, I guess that means no Mass Effect Andromeda story DLC. Actually, who knows. Mass Effect Andromeda may have been a misstep, but its the sort of game that would benefit from additional work and an eventual re-release. As opposed to being swept under the rug and forgotten.
