Felmyst, a new World of Warcraft fan server that
aimed to recreate that special time and place when the Burning Crusade expansion for World of Warcraft launched, went live on Friday, July 21. For a little while. As reported by
Ars Technica it was "shut down by a legal demand delivered by Blizzard representation mere hours after the server launched".
The creator of the server, Gummy52 took to Reddit to
respond and prove that the cease and desist was in fact real. The shut down follows from last year's Nostalrius fan server that was setup to recreate vanilla launch WoW. Which was taken down after reaching a reported 150,000 players. Felmyst wasn't as large as that, but was created with care and detail to support up to 3,000 players.
It's worth noting that Elysium the spiritual successor server to Nostalrius is still live today.
