As part of a deal between Valve and Samsung it looks like Steam Link is slowly transforming from a separate box that connects to a TV to an App. Which, is very cool news. Currently being tested in beta form with 1080p/60fps output the service also supports the Steam Controller and a Wired Xbox 360 pad. Of course this is all well and good if you don't live in Australia.

Where getting hardware direct from Valve or Steam has always been an issue. The launch of the hardware revision of Steam Link bypassed our shores until it became an EB Games exclusive for $89.95 AUD (or cheaper when on sale). But, it's still available for $50 USD or less if you look around online.

An App though is a different story. And in partnering with Samsung it's the perfect opportunity for Steam to enter a lounge-room, hassle free.

I bought a Steam Link for $27 the other day to go in my bedroom... holy crap, for $27 I think I might go buy another one for the lounge room. And I barely see myself using it but for $27, rather hard to go wrong.

Also, WTF about the comment about Steam Link bypassing Australia? Think you better do some fact-checking there bud.

I ended up getting an NVIDIA shield tv and using gamestream instead, mostly cos it does 4k and hdr, but on the whole I'm really impressed. Feels snappier than steam did and it's a nice little set top box too
