First released in 1993 LucasArts' Star Wars: X-Wing ushered in a new era for space combat sims with state of the art 3D visuals and intense, realistic combat. For the time. A new fan project, called XWVM is looking to bring the game up to date with brand new explosions, HDR lighting, new planet models, and even some AI improvements. Check out a trailer showcasing the work done so far after the jump.

And it's looking very good.



Best part of all is that the mod will be compatible with most versions of the game, including the original DOS floppy disk release and the digital versions available on Steam and GOG.
