The New Nintendo 2DS XL will be out in Australia on June 15 for AU $200. The unit which is an improvement on the existing budget Nintendo 2DS includes all the improvements from the New Nintendo 3DS, minus the whole third-dimension stuff. 3D which was a big deal when the 3DS first hit the scene has taken a somewhat backseat of late thanks to the love of all things high-res. And this announcement could be Nintendo's way of ditching 3D for a more powerful and cost-effective handheld.
But then again it might not be. Like the 3DS XL the unit will utilise the clam-shell design of the DS family and will play all 3DS, New 3DS, and DS games. The announcement comes are the successful launch of the Nintendo Switch, which sold 2.74 million units worldwide in its first month of release.
