Usually the first patch for a big AAA release like Mass Effect: Andromeda would be aimed at fixing any glaring bugs, glitches, or stuff that could potentially break the game. But with a lot of the launch feedback surrounding the new Mass Effect centered on and around the animation, and how weird and often poor some of it looked, BioWare has already begun to address these concerns. With the developer also pointing to future animation fixes and improvements we can expect to see in the future.

Version 1.05 of Mass Effect: Andromeda, kicks thing off with improvements made to the lip syncing and facial animations among other changes. Like the weird zig-zag run that Ryder does.

Here be the full patch notes.

  • Improved tutorial placement
  • Increased inventory limits
  • Single player balance changes: Ammo crates, armor, weapons, nomad, profiles, attacks, and progression
  • Multiplayer balance changes: Weapons, cover, and enemies (check back for detailed notes on balance changes)
  • Improved matchmaking and latency in multiplayer
  • Added option to skip autopilot sequences in the galaxy map
  • Decreased the cost of remnant decryption keys and made them more accessible at merchants
  • Improved logic, timing, and continuity for relationships and story arcs
  • Improved lip-sync and facial acting during some conversations, including localized VO
  • Fixed an issue with Ryder’s movements when running in a zig zag pattern
  • Improved the appearance of eyes for human and asari characters
  • Fixed various collision issues
  • Fixed bugs where music or VO wouldn’t play or wasn’t correct
  • Fixed issue where global squad mate banter sometimes wasn’t firing on UNCs
  • Fixed issue where player was unable to access the Remnant Console Interface after failing decryption multiple times
  • Fixed issue where fast travel is sometimes disabled after recruiting Drack until the player reloads a save
  • Fixed issue where Ryder can become stuck in the start of Biotic Charge Pose
  • Fixes issues related to some saves
  • Fixed issue where objective sometimes becomes un-interactable for players in multiplayer
  • Streaming and stability improvements

Future patches for the game are said to continue the work being done to address the animation concerns, improve and expand on the player creation tool, and also rework the male romance options for Scott Ryder for the better.

Should be good, I am lv31 now I think. Trying to get Peebee's pants off.

This patch installed today, makes it look much more like a finished game than a Bethesda game. Looks heaps better and the ability to skip the boring transitions between planets is much appreciated.

I'm about 50 hours in and having a blast, almost finished all the loyalty missions and only have 1 planet left to go.

I do have a few gripes though.
Firstly, the gear is super boring and even kind of pointless since they have the crafting system that I think is newly added this game. I've never been a huge fan of having to obtain gear in RPG's but I feel like the only real positive is the rare unusual items with cool names and powerful stats that can sometimes drop. There is none of that in this game, every item that drops is trash because you can easily craft the same item but with extra mods that makes it more powerful. The way I prefer it is to have the armour easily obtained and modified so you don't look like a homeless person out there saving the galaxy but have some really cool weapon drops from finishing missions or encounters.

Secondly, let us f*****g name the saves for f*** sake. I had huge issues with Dragon Age: Inquisition making some bizarre choices at the end that really ruined my experience of the game but because Bioware just time stamp the saves and give you a limit I never bothered trying to keep track of important turning points which I could have gone back to in order to fix it.

My final gripe was going to be about how tedious searching all the planets was but the skip transition feature they added with the patch pretty much fixed that.

Other than the gear being boring and the saves being f*****g stupid the game is great

Yeah, agree about the loot, it's pointless cos the crafted pieces will always be better. If the gear that dropped could have random augments in it, would make it more interesting. Needs some unique epic guns and stuff too though that do unique s*** your crafted ones can't. At the moment I craft everything and just break loot down for resources, so they may as well just drop resources.

I'm really enjoying the game too though, for all its flaws, when it's good it's really good, enough to make me want more. And the combat is great, I reckon best combat in a mass effect game so far. Being able to mix and match abilities at will and switch up and try new stuff keeps it feeling fresh too. In the other mass effect games, I'd often play soldier then take tech and biotic squad mates, and since you could control their abilities, it let you play with biotic and tech stuff and not feel like you were missing out too much. Now that I can do it all myself, I don't miss the micromanagement of ordering my squad around, in fact I think the combat probably plays faster and more frenetic because of it.

The ui though, my god is it awful. A programmer definitely made the UI, it's all just lists within lists within lists and when I first started playing it was seriously overwhelming me. Got my head around it now, but it's still awful, and things like the Loadout consoles are just terrible, just let me equip s*** from my inventory ffs. And like with crafting, if you want to make a new chest, and use the augment from your old chest, you need to unequip the old one to destroy it to get the augment back to make the new one because you can't destroy equipped items. And you can't unequip it through the Loadout console, you can only replace it with another chest, so if it's the only chest you have you're s*** out of luck.

I found the research a bit confusing at first too, cos you research augments and you immediately get them in your inventory, but researching weapons and armour just unlocks the schematics then you still need to craft it. I spent a bunch of research credits on things I then found out I didn't have the mats to actually build :(

I got the hang of it after that, but it's definitely not user friendly

Absolutely wonderful game, now just a bit more polished. Reviews were so wrong on this game.

I think the outright hate against it was wrong, but the reviews that gave it a 7 or 7.5 out of 10, pretty much spot on, thats what I'd give it. Good game, enjoying it a lot, but its most definitely flawed.

I think the sheer amount of busywork in the game is starting to wear me down too. The main quests are all pretty awesome, and most of the meaningful side quests for the planets and the loyalty missions are pretty good, but almost everything that falls in the 'Tasks' category is fetch quests and mindless busywork which I'm assuming they just added to make the open world feel a bit more populated with stuff. Honestly though I think the game would be stronger without any of that stuff, it just dilutes the story and makes the whole thing feel less epic and less Mass Effect.

Yeah I agree about the fetch quests. The one that really annoyed me was called Contagion, which is about the possibility of a break-out of some sort of incurable virus that effects all species. Seems like a pretty tense situation but you end up doing so much running back and forth that all tension is removed and you feel like it's probably for that best that everyone just dies in the end anyway.

There are other ones where you just think, I'm the Pathfinder, colonizer of worlds and you can't find some other gofer for your s***** job?

The problem with Bioware is they usually have some sort of consequence where because you didn't do that little s***** quest no one else did and some f*****g thing fails.

That said I'd rate it higher than that though because s***** side quests are standard RPG fare and everything else about the game is a lot better than most other RPG's I can think of. It s**** all over Skyrim for example which I wouldn't be surprised if that got high 9's.

Yeah, that's it exactly, it's like I'm the Pathfinder doing epic s***, exploring ancient alien ruins and machines and trying to ensure the survival of the human race, and then I gotta deliver some guys research notes or find someones sister or go scan some plants. Totally kills the momentum.

I seriously doubt that this and promised future "fixes" (they weren't bugs - they were by design!) will be enough to rescue the game, at least in terms of sales. What's more, the animations - and the media focus on them - weren't what made the game s*** for me. It's a story/character driven game. An interactive narrative, if you will; but the story is crap and so are the shallow characters that are really just BioWare clones from previous games. Wrex/Drack. Vetra/Garrus. Peebee/Liara, etc., Man, I miss the REAL Mass Effect... not this amateurish copy. But sure, fix the animations and all the graphical monstrosities that are belied by the amazing Frostbite engine. Just, please, do some actual writing in future. If it isn't fun to play rendered in DX 9 using UE2 then all the graphical shinies in the galaxy won't help it.

Racist.

Peebee is a *little* bit reminiscent of Liara at first, just cos of the whole researching a super advanced dead race thing, but hugely different outside of that. And besides being the same race the others aren't similar at all. I mean, I think Vetra is a bit of a boring character and I have no interest in most of her s***, but shes nothing like Garrus. And apart from being Krogan, Drack doesn't have much in common with Wrex either. If anything I actually think Drack is the most interesting krogan character they've had, because hes so old hes got all this first hand knowledge of the Krogan rebellions and and krogan history going way, way back. The guy is like 1200 years old and has replaced a lot of his body with cyborg parts, thats bonus badass points in my book. Then all that typical krogan stuff is offset by the really touching relationship he has with his granddaughter as well.

All in all, I think the characters on the team are pretty good. Took me a while to warm to some of them, but on the whole pretty good. Liam was kinda boring and a bit annoying at first, but I just did his loyalty mission last night and it was f*****g awesome, one of the best bits of the game so far imo and some of the best dialogue, so I've warmed to him a bit. He also has a great bromance going with Jaal that is good for laughs. Cora and Vetra are probably my least favourites, just because I find them boring. Cora had some potential for interesting stuff with the asari commando backstory, but it never felt like it really paid off, even in her loyalty mission. And Jaal is just interesting I guess cos hes the new alien and can be mined for a lot of that "fish out of water" style humour and drama. Plus I guess the twist with the Kett has interesting repercussions for him.

The old Mass Effect games had some really awful companions too, like the first game had two of the worst in Ashley and Kaiden. In that mission where you had to choose one to stay behind and die it was a really hard choice for me, cos I wanted them both to die. ME2 had Grunt, the fill-in Krogan who nobody gave a s*** about. ME3 I think it was had Zaeed who was just a boring "I'm too old for s*** s***" mercenary. One of the games, I can't remember if it was ME2 or ME3 had a human soldier guy who lived in the cargo hold who was so utterly unremarkable that I can't even remember his name. Even firm fan favourites like Garrus and Tali didn't really come into their own until the later games, and Mordin (one of my personal favourites) didn't even exist until ME2.

I mean this is basically at the point ME1 was at, these are all new characters we're just getting to know, its just at a disadvantage cos instead of being genuinely fresh, its still carrying the baggage of being the successor to a brilliant trilogy of past ME games. Who knows though, in another 6 or 7 years time, after a few more Andromeda games, maybe Jaal and Drack will be as fondly remembered as Mordin or Garrus, and maybe Liam and Cora will as forgotten as Ashley and nameless soldier guy.

Yeah, characters take time to develop, next game, they could have new ones and progress the story of the old ones.

One annoying thing I don't like is the mineral finding. I think that doing it from the planet view, like we used to was better. I hope they change it for the next game. You can skip some of the side stuff, fetch missions and such. Would be nice to have 4 or 5 abilities you can use at a time or remove the requirement for the power cell for the combat abilities that use them.

It is a solid Mass Effect game, it will never be as awesome as ME2 but not much is though. I would give it 7.5 - 8.0.

The user interface could be more PC friendly in general but that is always too much work for Bioware.

The research and development thing is a bit of a mess. I would not really miss it.

Yeah I agree Khel. Drack is the s***, Vetra is kind of boring and Peebee actually grew on me. Liam's mission was fun but he is annoying and Cora is a boss to have in your squad but bland as f*** otherwise.

I had Drack and Peebee in the Nomad with me for most of my time on Elaaden (which is an awesome map) and their relationship is quite cute.

Suvi's accent makes me weak tho.

One thing I will note that I think has been overlooked is how far Bioware have come when it comes to maps. The maps where you can drive around are a huge step up from normal Bioware level design which historically has been incredibly s***. Aya and the Nexus are still a bit meh but I guess baby steps for Bioware.

Yeah, I was just thinking that last night. I was doing Havarl, and it feels a bit more like a traditional Bioware or past Mass Effect map; still open world but more linear and lots of corridors, and it made me realise what a step up the other maps were from their usual efforts and past games. Havarl reminds me a bit of like an Old Republic map, even though its open, theres really only one way to move through the map, and theres lots of walls around the place that funnel you into heading that way.

my fav characters are drack, peebee and vetra. drack is pretty much a must to have in your group mainly because of his banter. most of the stuff he says is damn hilarious.

One annoying thing I don't like is the mineral finding. I think that doing it from the planet view, like we used to was better.

i think i prefer the mining in andromeda. i put the mining graph up when driving between quests and grab whatever shows up a long the way.

what's everyones favourite planet? i haven't been to elaaden yet but so far my fav would be h-047c. driving the nomad was really fun on that planet.

Yeah, I haven't been to Elaaden yet, and I haven't done anything on Kadara outside the city, but H-047c was heaps fun, boosting up hills and getting mad air in the nomad never got old. Kinda wish there was more to do there because it was over too quick!

Voeld probably my least favourite so far, the constant cold and life support drain on Voeld annoyed me. Even though it happened on Eos as well it seemed more annoying on Voeld because it didn't go away when you turn on the vault, but it was at least used for interesting gameplay in the vault where you needed to kind of fight around the heaters and stuff. I still haven't bothered doing the architect on Voeld cos it was so annoying having to fight it at the same time as managing the cold.

Elaaden is my favorite, very Dune-y. Havarl would be my least, just too cramped and boxy.

I did like that H-047c until I had to alt tab out to work out how to get the f*** off it.

I kind of get the Hazardous conditions thing they did to make the planets feel less safe and they did need to do something but I'm sure they could have done better than what they did. Elaaden is probably where it bothered me the least because they use shade as the mechanic to get life support back and once you open the vault it goes away.
