ABC2's Good Game Cancelled After 10 Years On the Air

In a surprise announcement today comes word that ABC2's Good Game has been cancelled after ten years on the air -- making it Australia's longest running television show about video games. The official statement cites the show's two main presenters leaving to pursue other opportunities and "changes in the way audiences are choosing to get their information about gaming" as the reasons for the cancellation.

In a spot of good news, the series younger-skewed off-shoot Spawn Point will remain in production. Unfortunately the online version of the main show, Pocket, has also been cancelled.

As per the statement the two presenters in question have of course been confirmed as Stephen 'Bajo' O'Donnell and Stephanie 'Hex' Bendixsen. This is sad news as the series recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.

She must have been responsible for the spilling of more seed than Muhammad Ali at a bird feeder.

The show sucked when Junglist was fired - I stopped watching
But Hex was hot, it was too distracting.

I know they wanted to target younger viewers
Not everyone who plays games is teenager.

Kind of surprised there arent more gaming shows.
Nearly every guy I know plays some game.

Thing is, in the age of Youtube, most gamers will be getting that info by watching "lets play" videos or various reviews and streams. I respected that Good Game was actually targetting itself at gamers and not trying to be some lowest common denominator type show that treats its audience like idiots, but at the same time, those gamers who would be their audience are the most likely to be the ones watching a streamer on Twitch instead.

I could never sit down and watch a game review show on TV, which is why I think the show is mostly geared towards kids who will sit in front of a TV and watch crap like this. I found the whole GG style quite stale, boring, scripted and almost a clone of those 2 old movie review people...except sadder. I have watched some GG stuff on YouTube, but you can find much more entertaining reviewers and better reviews from other channels.

Of youre a gamer interested enough in games to sit down for an hour to watch a show about...games, you will already know everything they are going to talk about or show. As mentioned, just checking in daily with a decent games site onine will keep you in the loop and surfing youtube for game footage of anything you're interested in. The cost to produce such a show would far outweigh its audience in this day and age Id imagine.

I used to watch it on youtube since you could only get it in fuzzy sd from iView. I think they were fair reviewers and I much prefer a 5 star system to the more popular but incredibly pointless out of 100 system so many other s***** review places do.

More importantly I like that they gave exposure to local content and covered Australian based issues like connectivity and pricing.

I really don't see it as a good thing that the ABC no longer has any content covering the gaming industry, seems like a massive step backwards to me but who knows, maybe they will develop a new show to make up for it.

I always found it awkward. Who wants to watch a show 90% about games they dont play. Youtube and twitch have got this market stitched up anyways.

Hmm maybe not. Bajo, gets quite a lot of film (TV) work apparently and I think he might be heading in that direction. He does a lot of behind the scenes stuff as well, writing, directing and such...

She will be a morning show presenter very soon, seems they have good career progressions. just like Sam Armitage or Rebecca Gibney.
