One of the lead designers of both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the game-within-a-game Gwent has moved on from CD Projekt RED to join Techland on its new fantasy RPG. The notable designer in question is Damien Monnier, and the move isn't as drastic as it might sound -- as both CD Projekt RED and Techland are based in Warsaw, Poland.

As the developers of the somewhat underrated Dying Light, Techland's next big project will see the studio moving away from the open-world co-op zombie RPG realm into one steeped in fantasy. In terms of design Techland's offerings have followed in the footsteps of Bethesda Games Studio's efforts like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, so it will be interesting to see how this new title pans out. And what sort of influence The Witcher 3 will have on the project.

The move for Damien Monnier is said to be amicable, and with development on The Witcher 3 content wrapped up it's certainly not a case of abandon ship.

ooooooooooooh

A lot of the Witcher 3 guys also moved over to Guerilla to work on Horizon Zero Dawn, so who knows if they end up finding a home at Techland once that game wraps too. But Techland working on an open-world fantasy RPG excites me very much. Dying Light was the tits, and they're a very fan/community-focused studio, much like CD Projekt RED.
