And it's currently slated for a console release next year. Plus, an announcement is expected this weekend at Sony’s PlayStation Experience event in California. Well, that's according to sources close to Polygon. The last game in the series, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 way back in 2011. And coincidentally, also came after the release of a highly successful Street Fighter, Street Fighter 4.

And so with the Street Fighter 5 Capcom Cup tournament being held at the same time, an announcement of a new Marvel vs. Capcom makes sense. Naturally, both Marvel and Capcom haven't responded to the rumours. And then there's the fact that Capcom's license with Marvel expired in 2013, with the team behind the last game denying the existence of a fourth game not that long ago.

But hey, as the announcement is expected this weekend, we don't have long to find out if the rumours be true.
