In a few months time Creative Assembly's popular historical warfare series Total War will enter the realm of orcs, goblins, and wizards. With Total War: Warhammer, the series will present an entirely fictional world for the first time, giving players the opportunity to command hundreds of blood-thirsty orcs as they charge into battle. It's like a videogame wish come true, and in the latest video from the game we get a look at an Orc campaign battle.

And apart from the rousing introductory speech filled with the right amount of orc-ish grammatical flourishes, it's a little underwhelming at first. Mainly because, when zoomed out, it looks a lot like the last few Total War games. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but with the recent string of impressive world map videos and the grand fantasy environments that make up the world, what we get here is a pretty simple 'yellow grass with hills' battlefield that could just as well come from Total War: Attila.

But up close the units and effects do look good. Fantasy good. And as for the battle itself we get a great look at some defensive strategies that should feel familiar to Total War fans, but with the added bonus of a general flying a winged creature that can cast spells.

Total War: Warhammer is out April 28 on PC.

It's disappointing because the "High King Edition" will not be available in Australia. You can order it from Sega for £129.98 (I don't think you would get it be release), but places like EB Games and JB Hi FI won't have it available for sale.
