The space dogfight portion of Elite Dangerous has been released as a standalone title and is available to purchase on Steam. Called Elite Dangerous: Arena, it brings the Close Quarter Combat (CQC) portion of the game to those who'd prefer to fire their space lasers at enemy ships than do boring stuff like explore the universe and perhaps come to a greater understanding of what it means to be a sentient life force among a vast sea of space and energy. Pew! Pew!
For those that have already played a bunch of Elite Dangerous this release doesn't stray too far from what's already included, in the sense that it's identical. Just made-up entirely of the PvP content in the full game. And it's fairly cheap too, at only $7.49 USD.
Fly agile fighters and go head-to-head against the galaxy’s greatest pilots in PVP dogfights - easy to pick up controls reward your developing skills with more to master for that ultimate combat edge. Choose your ship, customise your load out and prepare for instant Arena-based action to earn the right to become Elite.
Elite Dangerous: Arena brings Elite Dangerous’ Close Quarter Combat (CQC) PVP game to players as a standalone release, featuring full cross-compatibility with the large and growing Elite Dangerous player community.
