In a clear Scrooge McDuck move, Activision and Bungie are now offering Destiny players Booster Packs. Which sound innocent enough in that they essentially provide instant access to higher level characters. But without the need to, you know, play the game. On paper it's not a terrible idea, and in the age of micro-transactions cheat codes are a thing of the past. It's just that they're priced at $44.95 each.

That's $45 per character. And to add insult to injury that ridiculous amount of money only gets you a Level 25 character. Which, is an extra layer of crazy because the Destiny level cap is 40.

It seems Bungie needs to visited by three ghosts. The ghost of Christmas past to show them a time when they didn't fleece players for content. Christmas present where they're shown The Taken King and the good things it brought to the game. And Christmas future, a world where micro-transactions rule the day and every step you take in Destiny costs a single Destino, an in-game currency exchanged for real-world money.

I don't see a problem with charging players who are too lazy to level up $45 to jump to about half way. Not sure WHY though, as I can see people spending $5 on the boost but not $45. They must have crunched some numbers and figured that's a good amount.

Blizzard charge $60 if you want to boost a wow character to 90, and 100 is max level. People pay it.

Blizzard charge like $15 a month to play a game you bought already, people are dumb.

Seems like a steep price, but I don't really see an issue with it. People pay a lot more than that for power-leveling services. Level 25 seems odd though. It seems they're just giving you the "Spark of Light" consumable item that you get with The Taken King.

I pay $1000+ a year to play basketball. To each their own.

As a regular destiny player I can tell you there is no value here. It would take you approximately 4hrs to achieve what they are charging you $45 for. Destiny is going to struggle after christmas, with no major content boost on the horizon its just going to be the hardcore PvP players left grinding it out. I'm not far off completely maxing out my 3 characters, I have all the exotics, completed all the activities multiple times, without new content their numbers will drop off dramatically.

Hmm. I guess it depends on how you value your time?

I don't play Destiny, but if I was only interested in the end game (ie the levelling of the alts was a 100% tedious chore) then about $10 per hour to skip it might actually make sense. It IS significantly more than grinding services tend to charge but is also legit and presumably risk free.

Meanwhile a whole s***load of people in Dota2 just threw down $35 USD for a Zeus (ie a single hero) cosmetic overnight...

Yeah its all relative, but I was gonna mention the same thing mass did, it is ridiculously easy to hit 25, however apparently they've nerfed xp gain too? haven't logged on to check it out yet.
