2K has sent through word a new update for the asymmetrical monster vs humans romp, Evolve, will drop in an all-new Observer mode for the game, allowing fans, friends and foes to watch rounds as they're happening, and also includes an added-value "survival-odds" betting type of system.
Off, but sort of still on topic as well, our review is still incoming and seeing how the post-release landscape has shaped out, we're glad we've held off. Expect an official verdict next week though. And now back on topic:
Observer Mode. Fully Free. All Platforms. Coming at you soon.
As we’ve said many times before, we are fully committed to our community – never breaking you apart from your friends based on what content you own, and always looking for ways to hook our players up with things like free community features.
Here’s a quick run-through of how Observer Mode works:
Be a Shoutcaster!
— You can now have Custom matches with 1 to 5 players, then add an Observer to your game, using the Hunter/Monster selection screen. Not only can you watch the game as the sixth player, but you can also use Observer mode to livestream these matches with added commentary. Think you got what it takes to be the next DB? Now you’ll have the tools to give him a run for his money.
Jump between character cameras!
— One of the coolest things about watching a match live is being able to see the Hunters coordinate and then jump to where the Monster is lurking. With Observer Mode, you’ll be able to seamlessly switch views between Hunters and Monster. Once a character camera is selected you’ll be able to rotate the camera around the character to see what is happening behind or beside them. Just highlight the Hunter (or Monster) you want to see and you’re there.
MinMax the HUD!
— We have created a custom HUD that gives you vital information about everyone playing without the on-screen clutter. Want to see stuff like the current perks being used and expected survival odds? Done. Want to overlay the minimap? No problem. Just want to enjoy a cinematic angle? Toggle the whole thing off, kick back and enjoy the view. On top of all this, you can even outline characters, making it easier to see them across the map.
DAISYCAM!
— Yes, a DaisyCam. You’re welcome. Provided a player has selected Maggie, you can follow everyone’s favorite trapjaw, Daisy.
Watch a trailer for the new Observer Mode embedded below, and check back with us next week for our in-depth review.
If I could just have an option where I can choose to not play the Monster, I would be so happy and play it so much more often. Pretty much exclusively play co-op Evacuation with randoms because of it.
Still thoroughly enjoy this game... One problem is that the PC versions playing population is dwindling so fast. Apparently console is still going well.
Sometimes you really notice the lack of players especially playing in AUS.
Game just got such a bad rep leading up to release from DLC it was always on the back foot.
Evolve needs a patch and competitive mode to keep it interesting. They haven't announced a date for these things though :/
Steve: When are you releasing the review? Interested to hear what you think about it post-release.
Yeah the PC population is pretty much dead, and I don't doubt console is following with all the big releases this month. Luckily I've got a group of friends with the game so its a perfect LAN title, but outside of friend matches it just isn't fun at all with its heavy reliance on teamwork.
I can't stomach s*** players, and especially when just one bad egg can ruin the entire game it just becomes pointless playing public.
Yeah I only play Hunter if I have a few friends. Otherwise stick to monster. Really needs a competitive matchmaking which they have announced but without a release date Im sure it will be too late.
I'll be disappointed if Evolve doesn't pick up again because I am enjoying it so much.
I doubt there will be a Left 4 Dead 3, or at the very least one made by Turtle Rock. Not just in that Valve can't count to three but it seems Turtle Rock are married to Evolve and that concept so it will be some time me thinks.
lol, nobody cares about your f***** review anymore, the game has been out for weeks now. please try and get your s*** together ag, at the moment its f*****g terrible. good work letting this supposed gaming site go down the toilet.
ps. you f***** nobs, you deadset think people will sit around and wait for your review on evolve? f*****g wow.
I'm glad I didn't buy this, looks like I dodged a bullet. It pays not to ignore user scores on metacritic most times.
Counter-Strike Global Offensive came back with a vengeance with low player counts after they fixed it up over time, competitive match-making made a big difference.

So maybe Evolve can do it too.
