Software and hardware maker Nintendo didn't disappoint in their January 2015 Direct, with the company coming out swinging hard on a number of big announcements including New Nintendo 3DS XL themed consoles, various software for both the Wii U and 3DS plus a giant bucket full of gameplay trailers to please the crowd.

While Australia has had the New Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL available for sometime now, Europe and America have finally been dated for February 13th. Oddly though Nintendo of America has opted to not offer the smaller, newer 3DS in North America, instead only the New 3DS XL will be available for purchase.

Amiibo's were also front and centre in today's direct, with news of the fourth wave focusing mainly on Smash Bros. figureheads. This will include Robin, Lucina, Wario, Pac-Man, Ness and of course Charizard. Eager collectors were also reminded that wave three will be heading to stores in February, and will include Mega Man, Shulk, Toon Link, Sonic, Meta Knight plus many more. There was also news on how various games like Mario Party 10, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Codename S.T.E.A.M. will utilise the figurines, which you can check out in the direct below.

Alongside new trailers for games we already knew were coming, Nintendo announced quite a few new games set to come our way in the future. Chief among these is a new Fire Emblem title for 3DS, while Tekken creator Katsuhiro Harada also appeared on the stream to announce the free-to-download Project Treasure. Popular Japanese puzzle title Puzzle & Dragons is also coming west in a double pack, with one title focusing on Mario. Finally, a new Pokemon title called Pokemon Shuffle, was also revealed, while two new playable DLC fighters (one of whom is Tingle) were shown off for Hyrule Warriors.

Nintendo will begin releasing reproduced versions of select Wii software, including Super Mario Galaxy 2, Punch Out!!!, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Metroid Prime Trilogy, on the Wii U eShop starting this month. For the first week each title is available, you'll be able to pick it up for half-price. Though these are all we know about right now, we've been told more Wii games will hit the Wii U eShop as the year goes on.

And that's pretty much everything, except for the fact that Nintendo appears to be exploring the potential of Cross-Buy titles with the upcoming Mario vs. Donkey Kong. This is quite a big announcement, especially with recent rumours suggesting that Nintendo may be looking at creating some cross-platform operating system in their next-gen hardware, but again that is all rumours for now.
