Space Engineers has been delighting would-be astronauts for a few years now, but just today the team at Keen Software House has unveiled their next project, called Medieval Engineers.

Medieval Engineers will take place during the dark ages of Western Europe, a time of feudalism when, historians tell us, much of humanity's knowledge outside of religion was lost or forgotten. As it turns out, though, matters of military science were in its heyday, and the art of building fortifications and siege engines reached heights not seen since the time of the Roman empire.

"Medieval Engineers is inspired by real medieval technology," reads the team's website. "Medieval Engineers strives to follow the laws of physics and history and doesn't use any technologies that were not available in the 5th to 15th centuries."

Keen said that while the game focuses on construction, it can be played as an action title as well. Players will be free to "use their creativity" to build weapons and structures. The video shows a catapult, as well as a massive trebuchet, laying waste to a hill-top keep. Pieces of wall crumble and fall, causing the wooden roof to collapse and knocking holes in other sections of the structure on the way down.

Early access to the game will be available for purchase on Steam soon.

Yeah does seem weird that they're launching an early access game while they're still in the middle of another early access game. Maybe that means they're planning on finishing it soon. Either way, this one definitely appeals to me.

I agree, unless they have a different team ready to do it and aren't taking staff from the other game...
