Double Fine has confirmed that ultra-classic Grim Fandango Remastered will be heading to PC (Windows, Linux and Mac), PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita come January 27th, 2015.

The game is presented in its original 4:3 aspect ratio, but Double Fine is planning to add some widescreen options. Players can choose to simply stretch the screen out, but other options (like some screen filling art) are being considered, senior publishing manager Greg Rice said.

Grim Fandango Remastered also adds a new modern analog control scheme. The new controls are based on a player-made mod — Double Fine contracted the modder who originally developed the alternate controls to bring his work to the Remastered version — and make controlling Manny much easier. Purists who prefer the game's tank-style controls will have the option to play that way, but analog will be the default.

The game's midi soundtrack is also being redone. The Melbourne Symphony, which recorded the orchestral soundtrack for Double Fine's Broken Age, is performing the score (which is being recorded next week).

Remastered also adds developer commentary to the game. Tim Schafer and other Grim Fandango developers recorded commentary during a series of gameplay sessions. As players move about the game, a clapperboard icon will appear in the upper left of the screen when Manny is near certain objects or locations. Tap the L1 button, and you'll hear the Grim Fandango crew wax nostalgic or provide some amusing insight.

I missed Grim Fandango the first time around, but everyone said good things at the time. Have to grab this one for sure.

I tried to get into it a few years ago. I've played just about every genre of game under the sun, and the lucasarts adventures were some of my favourites, but this easily took the cake as the most boring game I've ever played, I tried to force myself through a few times but just couldn't make it past the giant car drive and slow boring conversations about office life. :/

I'm presuming it gets better later on, so I might look at the remastered edition.

Sounds like you didn't solve many puzzles and got stuck right at the beginning. I would give it a try with a walkthrough handy so that you don't go round in circles as much.

Yeah I missed it at the time too, played it a year or two back, got pretty stuck frequently, those old school adventure game puzzles are pretty abstract! Really enjoyed it though, will defo get this.

Same here, I'm a huge fan of Lucasarts adventure games but this one I couldn't get into.

I'llt try again when this gets released.
