The first episode of Dreamfall Chapters, the Kickstarter-funded episodic sequel to Funcom's The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, will be released on October 21st, developer Red Thread Games announced today.

In Dreamfall Chapters, players will follow three characters journeying across a futuristic cyberpunk world and a fantasy world. Players' choice of action will determine how the story unfolds. Book One will include the prologue and first two chapters of the game. Books Two through Five, to be launched at a later date, will complete the story.

Red Thread Games is developing the title under the direction of its founder Ragnar Tørnquist, who wrote and directed the Longest Journey games under Funcom. Dreamfall Chapters was originally announced by Funcom in 2007, but as the company's focus shifted to online games and development began on sci-fi MMORPG The Secret World, the game was left alone. Tørnquist took the IP with him to Red Thread Games and began production on the title in 2012.

In early 2013, Red Thread launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund Dreamfall Chapters, which exceeded its funding goal of $850,000 and pulled in $1,538,425 from more than 21,000 backers.

Dreamfall Chapters — Book One will be available to download for Linux, Mac and Windows PC. It is also slated to launch on PlayStation 4 in early 2015.
