Sony has announced that this coming weekend all PlayStation 4 owners will be able to claim a free weekend of PlayStation Plus, allowing them to finally taste that matchmaking goodness in online multiplayer games.

While the offer is a great gesture from Sony, it does seem a bit pointless when a majority of the games being purchased on the PlayStation 4 require PlayStation Plus, and not having it defeats the purpose of owning those games. Of course, there is always the saying 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth', so best not say no to this deal.

The trial period will begin on September 26th at 5:00pm AEST and finish up on September 29th at the same time of 5:00pm AEST. The offer will be open to all PlayStation 4 owners and will require no signup.

I just renewed our PS+ last night. It pays for itself 10 times over every year. Even better value now that we have a PS3 and PS4.
