Rockstar has warned that those playing Grand Theft Auto V's online component on the newer, slimmer PlayStation 3 12GB models will soon have to upgrade their internal hard drive or play offline to ensure appropriate space.
The reason behind this sudden and dramatic change? A new title update, version 1.16, was released on August 19th and it requires more storage space than the 12GB PlayStation 3 can hold. Both GTA Online and GTA V's Story Mode operate from the same install, so players who can't or don't want to upgrade their hard drives will have play without connecting to PlayStation Network.
"If not enough space is available on the system, hardware limitations will prevent players from accessing GTA Online," reads a note on the support page. "GTAV Story Mode will still be accessible by playing the game without being connected to PlayStation Network, and proceeding without additional updates."
