Five new characters from Marvel's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film will soon become a (virtual) reality in Disney's upcoming Disney Infinity 2.0, executive producer John Vignocchi announced during a recent event in San Francisco (via Polygon
The Guardians of the Galaxy will appear inside Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes as a standalone playset. After the gang gets ahold of one of the legendary Infinity Stones, they find the deadly Ronan the Accuser hot in pursuit. The set is being developed by Studio Gobo, who worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean playset.
Like the original Disney Infinity figurines, the Guardians of the Galaxy characters will each have their own special set of moves related to their character. As Star-Lord, players will have access to standard melee abilities, a special super jump ability and dual-wield pistols. Drax, who Vignocchi describes as "a very brutal, inside and up close melee combat fighter." He has two daggers as well, which he can use to wall-crawl. The deadly Gamora will play "similar to [the Avenger's] Black Widow" with her abilities to move quickly from foe to foe, Vignocchi said. Gamora's super move is a powerful slice that can tear through enemies on the battlefield.
Rounding out the set is Groot — a humanoid tree who can extend his limbs to attack — and Rocket Raccoon, a pistol wielding raccoon. Rocket's super move allows him to fire off a gigantic blast to wipe out bad guys with ease.
In related super hero news, Disney Infinity players on PlayStation consoles will have the opportunity to snag the Hulk figurine early in one of two bundled sets, executive producer John Vignocchi announced in a post on the PlayStation Blog
. The PlayStation Collector's Edition will include Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk figurines, as well as an Avengers-themed play set, two power discs and the glow-in-the-dark Frost Beast Collector's Edition display.
