CD Projekt RED has unveiled The Witcher Battle Arena, a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena coming to mobile devices later this year.

Players will control eight familiar characters from the The Witcher universe for short, fast-paced 3-on-3 battles in an Arena, and control point style Conquest modes. The unique playable heroes so far include the Assassin of Kings Letho Gulet, Ivoreth, the sorceress Philippa Eilhart, Dwarven adventurer Zoltan Chivay, The Golem, Eithne of Brokilon, Saskia of Aedirn, and the mage known as The Operator.

Despite the free-to-play monetization model and the stigma surrounding it, CD Projekt RED is placing special emphasis on an honest, fair system: everything can be unlocked for free by playing the game, though that process can be sped up by purchasing upgrades at "a reasonable price."

“In a world full of enter-your-PIN-number-to-win mechanics, what we value above all is well-balanced and honest gameplay,” said Tadek Zieliński, Creative Analyst, CD PROJEKT RED. “Battle Arena is all about skill and dedication, and we’ve spent hundreds of hours planning to make it a paragon of fairness in mobile gaming.”

The Witcher Battle Arena is in development by Fuero Games for iOS, Android and Windows phone and tablets. Check out the announcement trailer below.

I love the s*** out of The Witcher, but generally hate mobile games. Conflicting emotions!
