While there are a number of interesting features making its way into Blizzard's next expansion for World of Warcraft, some would argue that the most interesting feature is the ability to build a personalised Garrison, described as an "expandable, customisable stronghold that will serve as the player's personal base of operations."

To help make things a bit clearer on what exactly the Garrison feature is, Blizzard has taken to their Battle.net blog to reveal a rather in-depth four-part series on all things Garrisons for Warlords of Draenor. The buildings take note from Blizzard's rather long history of RTS roots, and will serve as a place for players to recruit NPCs who can live in the Garrisons, gather resources and take on helpful missions.
"The story you weave in Draenor is one of personal heroism, but your actions have a wider impact. Part of your mission is to raise an army capable of toppling the Iron Horde, and the Garrison is integral to that experience. In terms of gameplay, that means you'll be creating and strengthening your Garrison as you journey to level 100.

While questing through Draenor, you'll encounter opportunities to choose between different types of buildings to add to your Garrison. Each choice will have an impact on your leveling experience, influencing the quests you'll have available and the zone-specific benefits you'll unlock upon completion of your chosen structure.
One example given in the outline indicates that by choosing to build either a Lumber Mill or a Sparring Arena in the zone Gorgrond, players will be sent out on missions centred around that choice. "This plays an integral role in how you experience the zone, as you'll be sent on quests specific to the building you've chosen and will receive a permanent benefit whenever you're in Gorgrond," added the post.

Far, far more can be read on the Battle.net post, though it is more than likely we'll continue to hear more on the new features coming in Warlords of Draenor as we get closer to its proposed launch timeline. What are you looking forward to the most in the fifth expansion? Let us know in the comments!
