When UK developer Splash Damage signed up with Korean publisher Nexon for its incubating free to play shooter Dirty Bomb
Back in 2012, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Quake Wars and Brink developer Splash Damage announced a new free to play project titled Dirty Bomb. Then about a year later, they signed on with Korean publisher Nexon and the game was renamed as Extraction -- which was reportedly the project's original working title -- due to concern they could secure the worldwide trademark for Dirty Bomb.
Today it would seem that concern has been resolved, as the game has now been re-re-announced as Dirty Bomb:
Long story short, the game’s back to being called Dirty Bomb. This not only better reflects its personality, but also ensures that we have a single, consistent name across the globe. On top of that, we get to use #PlayDirty on Twitter (#LetsExtract just didn't quite have the same ring to it - well, except for dentists, maybe).
Additionally, the
press release announcing the name change also confirms that Nexon will be running "dedicated servers for Dirty Bomb in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand".
