Mortal Kombat co-creator and NetheRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon has been posting a series of cryptic messages on Twitter, seemingly hinting that the studio is preparing to announce a new Mortal Kombat game on June 2nd 2014 (thanks Game Informer.

Far from any actual confirmation yet, the developer has posted several clues that appear to be counting down to June 2nd, and suggest that Mortal Kombat X could be the title of a tenth entry into the long running fighting game franchise -- following on from the 2011 Mortal Kombat which was widely referred to as MK9.

Mortal Kombat 9 was by far the best one released in the series, be hard to top it off. Hope they pull it off and don't create a fail.

This I did love Mortal Kombat 9 and i did love MK9 online when it worked but it was very very buggy

I know they outsourced the port. But jesus, it doesn't take much to make the MP not a steaming pile of s***.

I would buy the s*** out of whatever it is they're making cos MK9 and Injustice were both awesome (but I still hope its MK10)
