Yes, you read that right, free. Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad developer Tripwire Interactive has announced through their Steam community that the World War II realistic FPS will be free starting tomorrow on Steam, with 24 hours to claim the offer.

In order to gain access to the game all you'll need to do is open up Steam, hit that buy button and pay a whopping $0. Free games have never been easier. Following tomorrow's offer, Tripwire will also be putting their recent standalone title Rising Storm up for a free weekend, though this one is only free for the weekend.

If you can't wait until tomorrow, you can head over to the Steam page and grab it for $9.99, though free is always better.

Do people still play Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad? And what about last years Rising Storm? I hear its a great game (scored well) but are there aussie servers with good populations?

This is the type of stuff i want to know before i click d/l (even if its free). If i had the NBN (and a decent quota) i wouldn't have to worry about these types of things, i could just d/l and give it a whirl. So very glad the NBN got screwed >_

I play a lot. There are many aussie servers with large populations playing at night.

Crikey I might need to get in on this.

Its an excellent game, absolutely loved it on release and have played a fair chunk of it. It somewhat died off after launch but hopefully this spurs it again, love the brutal difficulty it pushes onto players.

I played it a heap when it launched. One of those games which has the realism/flick shooter balance right. If it had a good scrim scene I would still be playing it
