A big surprise announcement to come out of the annual PAX East event in Boston over the weekend was 2K Games' reveal of Civilization: Beyond Earth, a new sci-fi entrant into the popular strategy franchise that's being pegged as a spiritual successor to the 1999 classic Alpha Centauri.
Sid Meier's Civilization®: Beyond Earth™ is a new science-fiction-themed entry into the award-winning Civilization series. As part of an expedition sent to find a home beyond Earth, lead your people into a new frontier, explore and colonize an alien planet and create a new civilization in space.
Watch the debut trailer below and get excited. Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is expected in Spring 2014 (Northen Autumn).

Hilariously the trailer is in perfect timing with The Final Countdown by Europe.

The would have earned so many bonus points if they released The Final Countdown music as the official trailer in the first place. It does work so very well.

Standalone by the looks

Though it’s built on the hex-based engine and structure of Civilization 5, Beyond Earth is not an expansion pack, but a full-fledged game that’s designed to be familiar to fans but also make fundamental changes to the way you play and win.

It was said to not be edited or sync'd in any way, just started at the same time...

That's because the final countdown version is so much more epic guy should be hired for their marketing department.

In love civilisation and I love space so looking forward to this.

The vocals were in sync, but nothing else. Pretty keen to see more of this though, but hoping it does not go too far off the rails with sci-fi.
