The GAP lads are back with yet another instalment of The GAP, their sometimes weekly podcast that covers *mostly* gaming. Here's this week's decription:
This week on The GAP Luke Lawrie, Joab Gilroy, Heath Dickson, and Jae Leong draw swords in Nidhogg during the day of fools. The games they discuss are Dark Souls 2, Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, Infamous: Second Son, Battlefield 4: Naval Strike and Valve's documentary Free To Play. In the news they try to sort out the April Fools news from the real stuff and talk about the new head of Xbox, Predator appearing in the Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC, and the future of DayZ. This episode goes for 1 hour and 30 minutes, and also contains coarse language.
Grab it locally from AusGamers by clicking right here. You can also follow The GAP on Facebook to tell them how much you love their snazzy voices or yell your opinions across the Internet, and find the latest podcasts through here.

YaY. But where is the video version? I want to see unattractive gamer socks and gamer basements god dammit >_<

I demand to see it!

Also slightly unrelated question thats been bugging me for a little while - why does AG support and advertise facebook so much? I mean this is a social network site that can host and share info so why keep promoting/ advertising for facebook? Havent they got their own advert team?

It would be fine, i guess, if they are paying for the advertising because i get AG needs to run on adverts to be sustainable but somehow im thinking that facebook hasnt invested a red cent in AG and its just free "call outs" i see in various official threads.

I don't understand the question here about "advertising Facebook". we advertise AusGamers' page on Facebook, or even these GAP boys' Facebook page, but we don't advertise Facebook. In fact, I honestly don't think Facebook advertises, or anyone else actually advertises them.

Everyone advertises them every time they say "find us on "facebook".

But it depends on how ubiquitous you see these "services" i guess? Facebook isnt just some channel or public service offering itself just to better society they are a private business that generates income and gets a "freebie" promotion everything it gets a mention. Take a look at what the french did:

Some text:

How do you say Facebook and Twitter in French? You don't – at least, not if you are on radio or television, where French officials have banned any mention of them unless they are specifically part of the story.

The internet sites have fallen foul of a 1992 decree that outlaws the advertising or promotion of private business on programmes. Journalists will no longer be able to end their reports by saying "Follow us on Twitter" or "Have a look at our Facebook page", because the French government deems this as either blatant or subliminal promotion, and has decided it is unfair to other similar networks

Christine Kelly, spokeswoman for the Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel (CSA), the government broadcasting authority, said: "Why give preference to Facebook, which is worth billions of dollars, when there are other social networks that are struggling for recognition. This would be a distortion of competition. If we allow Facebook and Twitter to be cited on air, it's opening a Pandora's box. Other social networks will complain to us, saying 'Why not us?'"

Kelly said the CSA was not seeking to block the networks, only to foster fairer practices. "We encourage the use of social networks ... CSA members spend hours on them. Perhaps one day Facebook will become a generic term, but for the moment it is a commercial enterprise – a leading one, certainly, but not the only one."

As someone who really (really) doesnt like (nor use) facebook i see it like the french do. The french get around it by saying "Find us on social networks."

That is what i mean about "advertising facebook".

Oh and I know they are public french channels being talked about but the less facebook gets talked about the better imo.

Facebook is ubiquitous, to ignore it and our channel on it would be stupid. You can disagree with it and its policies all you like, but it's the 'other' Internet and not using it as such is actually a detriment to us.

fair enuf. thanks for clearing up the AG position on the matter

Advertising your own channel on Facebook isn't intentionally advertising Facebook, though it's the unintentional result. Same for all major social/collaboration mediums on the internet.

So what happened to ep 216?

That is a great question, and one I don't actually have an answer for. Seems The Gap guys travelled in time, skipping ep 216.

Disabled my FB account the other day, best thing I've done in years. Very, very unlikely to go back.

I'm a bit of an ahead of the curve, trend setter kinda guy so you can expect more of this.
