Indie team Grimm Bros have unveiled their debut title, Dragon Fin Soup, a classic-style RPG that mixes procedurally-generated content with roguelike elements.

Revolving around a cheerfully alcoholic version of the Red Riding Hood fable, you star as Red Robin in the twisted fair tale of Asura, which is conveniently located on the back of a giant space-time turtle. Two modes are presented to the player: Story Mode which plays like a classic console RPG, with a focus on the story and character; or Survival Mode, which is of a more roguelike experience where you will fend off monsters in procedurally-generated environments with the ever-looming notion of permadeath.
Inspired by classic fairy tales the world of Dragon Fin soup does not try to retell existing stories but is rather set in a brave new world of twisted adventures, magic and mysteries. Our first playable character in Dragon Fin Soup is Red Robin, a reimagined version of the classic Red Riding Hood character. Robin is a cheerful yet raging alcoholic that makes a living as a sword for hire and bounty hunter in a remote country village.

A year ago Robin lost her memory but her dark bloody past has come back to haunt her with a vengeance. Slowly as Robin rediscovers herself she begins to remember the horrible events of her violent past, the death of her family, betrayal, and exile. But there is much more to Robin's existence… As the story unfolds and with every twist in the plot the player is pulled deeper into a world of murder, conspiracies and magic.
The team are also looking at adding day and night cycles, unpredictable weather patterns, scripted story missions, random side quests, and a number of gathering and crafting system. All of this and more cane be found over at the team's KickStarter page, where they have already surpassed their required goal of $24,000.

Dragon Fin Soups is scheduled for a release later this year on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Check out the alpha trailer below to see it all in action.
