Ahead of the official launch on March 13th for PC and Xbox One, EA and Respawn Entertainment have today announced new details on their mech-FPS Titanfall Season Pass, which will include three map packs for the price of $29.99.

In a recent interview with Gamespot, Respawn's Vince Zampella has revealed that the team are looking to offer both the Season Pass for map pack content and also free content in the form of features and upgrades..

"We're going to do paid DLC, we're also going to do free updates," he said. "There are things we want in the game that we didn't get to ship in the final game. We'll add private matches and things like that for free." Essentially, it sounds like the usual multiplayer update plan. Features and upgrades are left as free updates, while new content becomes DLC."

"We're going to do a season pass, just because... if you buy it up front, you get a deal," he continued. "We're not doing microtransactions, so the season pass is just buy it up front and you get a better price."

For those grabbing Titanfall on PC, you'll be treated to a unique Titanfall Digital Deluxe, which includes the base game and season pass for $99.99. Sadly Xbox One and Xbox 360 players will have to purchase the game and season pass separately, with no word on when a bundle may be offered. No details yet on what maps the season pass includes, nor when they will be made available.

Titanfall is due out on March 13th for PC and Xbox One, with Xbox 360 getting their version a week or so after. Local servers are still a missing feature at this time, with Australian and Oceanic players being forced to use the high-pinged Singapore servers as the closest playable region.

Part of me doesn't want to buy it due to the fact there won't be any local servers until at least the end of the year.

The other part of me had an absolute ball playing the beta and 160 ping wasn't actually that noticeable considering it's more of a run and gun than pin point accurate shooting.

Is anyone really surprised? It's f*****g EA the most money grubbing c**** in the gaming industry.

I had fun in the beta but screw it not going to be paying more for maps that should be in the frigging game already

I don't mind some season passes. Blands2 did it well. You got an amazing amount of content for 20bux (cheaper when it was on sale).

Though 30bux for 3 map packs. Ew.

If it felt like they'd left bits out to do it that way, I'd tend to agree, but in this case the base game has a f***tonne of maps included, way more than CoD or BF ships with, I think its like 12 or 14 or something insane? So even without the map packs, you've got a tonne of variety.

I want them to add some kind of co-op mode, that'd be fun. I wonder if all the maps in the packs are just going to be traditional maps for the existing game or if they're planning something different like that.

I look forward to spending my Mexican pesos on this season pass for a nice conversion rate discount.

WHAT? 12-14 is insane? CS has like 46, ET which was free has was released with 6 campaigns which I think each consisted of 3 maps each, TF2 which is also free has SEVENTY ONE MAPS.

What the f*** is happening here?

At launch though? 14 maps is pretty decent amount to have at launch, especially stacked up next to the majority of other FPS games that come out these days, and especially considering its an entirely new franchise and its an entirely new set of maps and not remakes/rehashes of maps from previous iterations of the franchise.

Still, I guess the whole map pack dlc thing does kill the idea of releasing an sdk or tools to let people make their own maps, so its still s***** in that regard.

yes you can say "its launch so 12 -14 maps is cool" because more will come out later right? Like other FPS games did. But the other games maps came out free. Not so cool if they are selling off 3 at a time for an additional 30 bucks a hit and esp so close after launch. ITs almost as if they already had the extra content but were just holding it back at launch for some reason. What ever for i wonder?

The problem with map packs is if you don't buy them and the server has them...

So then you have to play on non-map-pack servers, or just get booted every time the DLC maps come up. That is pretty s***.

IMO for multiplayer only games, community splitting actions should be avoided. No paid DLC for map packs for instance. Cosmetic stuff for sure, stuff other people can have and you can see, but can't use without the DLC.

DOTA-2 has shown pretty strongly that people will pay massive amounts of money for cosmetic changes.

You've got a point Khel, at launch TF2 had 6 maps but then they've continually released content and added maps and even allowed the community to make their own.

I just finished Tomb Raider and the extra content was just cosmetics and a map pack. Haha what a f*****g joke. Oh actually you sold me those games, thanks! I'm about to start on another one.

Hehe yeah I agree, the DLC for Tomb Raider was really pathetic. The game was awesome so I was really hoping they brought out some cool DLC expansions for the single player, but no such luck :(

Yeah, you've got a point with maps coming out for free, I'm not necessarily arguing that paid map packs are a good thing, I'm not that keen to buy them, I was just saying it doesn't seem to me like they skimped on the maps in the initial game or cut them out to try to sell them later piecemeal, theres good value on the disc. They're only selling the season pass thing at launch which is where you pay $30 for the promise of more maps at some point in the future, they're not selling the actual map packs, so I doubt they're done and got left out. I dunno, maybe I'm just being naieve =\

I would really like to see more games go the route of TF2/Dota2/CSGO. Even if you buy the game and they allow the community to make maps, then sell them on to the consumers. CSGO has a good way of doing it. Valve makes money, the community makes money, and it's good PR.

Sheeple man. They buy into the bulls*** these companies push. I see DLC...season passes...premium addons...whatever. I just walk away now. F*** your premium/DLC game content/whatever. I'm OK with them selling vanity content...but that's it. I'm pretty sure I'm a minority moving against a herd so it will never matter. But at the end of the day I'm not paying their stupid tax so I'm OK with that. I'd rather run around with no pants on and hitting someone in the head with a rock in Rust than pay EA $30 to play on a couple of extra maps.
