DICE's modern warfare FPS Battlefield 4 has reportedly been banned by the Chinese government following the release of the latest expansion pack, China Rising, according to
Wall Street Journal. The game had been banned on grounds of “national security” and perceived aggression against the Chinese culture.
Publisher EA has yet to give an official comment on the matter, but this new video game ban most likely won't hurt the company much since it doesn’t actually sell Battlefield 4 there. This isn't the first time a video game has been banned in China, with previous consoles having been banned for more than a decade, though the country has recently started relaxing its restrictions.
The expansion pack in question features a variety of new maps, vehicles and an additional gametype, all set on the Chinese mainland. Battlefield 4's single-player campaign also involves a Chinese admiral initiating a plan to overthrow the government in the year 2020.

er, you are kidding about not being black listed aren't?
asio have alot of power, and there there are black lists of people, sure the actions are less harsh than those in china, but as we have seen of late in QLD, it doesn't take much of a change for the system to become a little more red

I don't know what you mean by being on some ASIO blacklist. Can you explain?
In China it can mean you, and in most cases your entire family, losing jobs, businesses, homes, and being ostracised within a whole city or province. Then there's beatings, imprisonment, and in rare cases you just disappear. You're not going to be evicted from your house, have goons ransack your business, and have the community you live in shun you because you called Tony Abbott a d******* on Renren.

At one point in the SP campaign in BF3, you shoot a commanding officer to save a Russian dude, after having plowed your way through hordes of Russians. You even play a Russian character at a couple of points in the campaign, IIRC. I really don't think a Swedish game developer gives a flying f*** about the military industrial complex.

all those military games are the same BS, battlefield, medal of honor, CoD just pure american propaganda. You seriously don't think constantly portraying certain ethnic groups as the enemy of america has no effect on the psyche of young people.

I think there are a whole lot of variables that are significantly more impactful than a few computer games.
If you were citing America's Army as being propaganda? Sure. But as it is, your indictment of those games is coming off as a little silly. I'm curious as to whether you've even played any of them.

So is this looking too deeply into a game?
fyi in case you didn't know - according to the Islamic faith one place you shouldn't mention God's name is in the toilet, but for some reason Activsion thought it'd be a good idea to include a quranic/islamic verse containing the words "God is Beautiful" no where but in a toilet. Coincidence? i think not.

Also note that in multiplayer modes, the US team typically has the map advantage. I was surprised when the Russians started up top on Metro.
