Valve's ever-growing MOBA title DOTA 2 will be introducing a new ranked matchmaking feature in the next major update, according to a new post on the
official game's blog. Valve will also be treating players to some holiday festivities with the upcoming Frostivus celebration.
Those looking to jump into the ranked matchmaking will find that Valve isn't letting you in so easily, with the new feature requiring approximately 150 games before unlocking and all players in the party must have it unlocked. Currently only All Pick, Captains Mode, and Captains Draft are available and an initial 10 games will be needed to calibrate your matchmaking rank, or MMR.
Extensive details on what exactly MMR is, how the ranked system will work and more can found
at the blog, though the very basic jist is that Valve are wanting to ensure players play fair and that their time in the ranked matches are fun and not worthless.
The
Dota 2 blog also teases the arrival of Frostivus, the game's wintry celebration of gift-giving and wreath-crafting. Details are scant, but the Dota 2 website confirms that "this year's Frostivus will be twice as caring and serene."
