Heroes of the Storm, the game formerly known as Blizzard All Stars, formerly known as Blizzard DotA might have another name-change in its future.
Joystiq reports that Blizzard's EU Trademark for the name conflicts with a Finnish trademark filing by Mike Pohjola, the creator of a crowdfunded pen-and-paper RPG title Myrskyn Sankarit (English translation: Heroes of the Storm).
Pohjola reportedly filed his trademark on October 4th, a little over a week after Blizzard's own filings, suggesting that the RPG creator was prompted by Blizzard's (widely reported) action before its intentions for the name were known. However, The Heroes of the Storm pen-and-paper game was actually published in July 2013, and established on corwdfunding platform
Indiegogo back in 2012, which seems like a strong case for prior art, if only in Finland.
Personally, we think Blizzard should just roll with it and give the game a new name every few weeks until it launches. Heroes of the Storm seems a little too similar to competing MOBA Heroes of Newerth anyway, and clashes abbreviations with Blizzard's own StarCraft II continuation, Heart of the Swarm.
