Infinity Ward, developer for the next title in the Call of Duty series, has revealed that dedicated servers will be available for all versions of Ghosts according to a new
Twitter post on executive producer Mark Rubin's account.
Up until now, the studio had only confirmed dedicated servers for both PC and the Xbox One versions, however has now revealed that "dedicated servers will be used on current-gen, next-gen and PC with Ghosts." Rubin also clarified that a new system will be in place that will offer a mixture of dedicated and listen servers, depending on the user's proximity and latency.
"No matter where you are, the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible," said Rubin. In addition, Ghosts' matchmaking technology will put players in matches with "the best combined overall connectivity performance."
Follow-up tweets also revealed that Infinity Ward are hoping to add a server browser post-launch alongside the ability to rent ranked servers and add mod tools for the PC version, though Rubin could not promise these features due to the studio having not yet started work on them.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is out November 5th on PC, Wii U, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with Xbox One on November 22nd and PlayStation 4 on November 29th.
