Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the recently rebooted MMO by Square Enix, will be receiving "a major update every three months" according to director and producer Naoki Yoshida in a new interview posted on the PlayStation Blog.

"We’re planning on doing a major update every three months once the game has been released, and continuously adding large-scale content. Ongoing support for the game will be included in the monthly subscription."

The recent blog post also reveals that the team on the Final Fantasy-themed MMO are already working on the first update to the game, titled "patch 2.1" and is expected to introduce a large-scale housing system, as well as "The Wolves' Den" - the first ever PvP content to be seen in a Final Fantasy title. Of course a patch for an MMO wouldn't be complete without the usual bug fixing and tuning to classes alongside new dungeons, new daily quest system new Primal battles, extensions to the main story and other new content to enjoy.

It isn't just quarterly patches that the game will see, with Yoshida-san revealing that "we also have long-term plans to release full expansion packs, so watch out for future updates on those, too."

Those eagerly awaiting the chance to play A Realm Reborn on Sony's upcoming next-gen PlayStation 4 will be happy to know that the team at Square Enix are well underway with production, with Yoshida-san expecting the unveil of a PlayStation 4 version sometime in 2014. As with the current PC and PlayStation 3 versions, PlayStation 4 players will also be able to co-exist on the multi-platform servers, ensuring there will always be a good amount of people to group with.

In related news, Yoshida-san has apologised for the recent Early Access problems that many players, including myself, were having over the weekend. One of the main culprits was error 1017, which would prompt players with the message "The World is currently full. Please wait until an opening is available and try again." The error briefly disappeared after a number of emergency maintenance, however with the recent launch of the game it has once again popped up so hopefully we'll see a timely resolution.

Check out the full blog post for more on the newly revamped title.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is now available for purchase on PC and PlayStation 3, with a minimum subscription fee of $11.99 available for players.
