While fans may be eagerly awaiting the official DayZ Standalone title, which currently has no official date yet for release, a group of modders who go by the name of Zoombies have successfully ported the DayZ Mod to Bohemia Interactive's ArmA 3 (via PC Gamer
As with any straight port the quality of the mod is simply "as is", with a number of existing bugs from the original version still persistent including glitchy zombie animations, however now it's playable in the beauty of Arma 3's engine.
Of course it isn't just the new engine that makes this re-jigged mod shine, ArmA 3 also boasts a new inventory which the team at Zoombies have taken full advantage of. Those (like myself) who have spent many hours creeping around buildings trying to scrounge for valuable equipment will know that the original inventory system was a slight pain to understand, sometimes causing items to simply disappear and so to see the new inventory in action offers a sigh of relief.
If you have access to the ArmA 3 beta, you can check out Zoombies official website
