With only a few sleeps until E3 2013 is upon us, Eidos Montreal has treated us to a early look at what it takes to become a master thief in Thief 4 with a new CGI trailer featuring the iconic Garrett.
There is a rising tide of fear in The City. Hatred saturates every stone and whilst the rich prosper, the less fortunate face misery and repression. Ravaged with sickness and famine, they wait for something to change.

Into this shadowy world steps Garrett, THE master thief in a first-person adventure featuring intelligent design that allows players to take full control, with freedom to choose their path through the game’s levels and how they approach and overcome each challenge.
Check it out below to see how the master thief works his magic. Thief will be available for PC and next-gen consoles next year.

Pretty much nothing like the old character, a pretty decent non-flashy professional who just wanted to retire and have the world leave him alone.

Agree, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

There's some gameplay here, doesn't really look like it plays the way it used to either.

Hands are kind of cool, but the lack of shadows, the lack of claustrophobic medieval mazeyness, the take downs, the hovering alert things on the UI - I just dunno. Doesn't even look like something trying to be Thief, aside from that the character kind of looks the same.

edit: Actually the second half does look better. Thief like ambient sounds, the main character talking a bit. The UI text looks really bland and inappropriately high technology though imo, like they're copying Assassin's Creed without having an excuse of the Animus.

This one was a bit better, though I hope that the UI is temporary: http://au.gamespot.com/e3/thief-6409869/

i haven't watch the vid yet but i remember reading that for the PC version you'll be able to turn off a lot of the UI stuff to make it harder for yourself.
