PCGamer are reporting that Valve's free-to-play MOBA title Dota 2 has once again surpassed its concurrent Steam player record, this time reaching 329,977 simultaneous users. Fingers are pointing at the cause for such a large surge of PC players to log into the game due to the
West Qualifiers for The International 3, which was available to view directly through the client.
Previously a report from DFC Intelligence had named Dota 2 as the most played "core" PC title, however it was unclear exactly where the data had come from and whether it was exactly accurate. In response to the report, League of Legends developer Riot Games responded in a
statement to GamesIndustry that a single shard from its MOBA title held more than 500,000 concurrent players at peak. It is unclear which data speaks the truth, but we can at least see that Valve's Dota 2 is at least growing in popularity.
