Project Awakened, the ambitious free-form action adventure title being held together by the group of dedicated former Midway developers at Phosphor games, has stalled again, with a notice on the official website calling off its latest crowdfunding venture.

After the project fell short of a US$500K goal on Kickstarter in early March, the team opted to try again, with a "founders club" initiative launching on their own website a few weeks later. We can only presume that the new plan also failed to attract the necessary support, and Phosphor has pulled the plug before spending the goodwill of its fans.
Phosphor Games would like to thank you for your continued support of Project Awakened, but at this time we need to put our funding endeavor on hold effective immediately. Everyone who pledged money will be receiving a full refund. Rest assured, our goal is to one day complete this game that we are all very passionate about
The notice also mentions that "there have been some alternative funding options that have recently been presented to us", so perhaps a publisher or an otherwise wealthy investor is interested. Fans of the concept are encouraged to look to Phosphor Game's Facebook page for future updates.

They didn't actually refund anything, because backers aren't charged unless the project is successful at its deadline.

They're refunding backers that pledged through the founders club on the official website, which didn't have a stated fundraising goal, and did charge people directly.
