Details on a new project being promoted as a spiritual successor to the acclaimed 2002 Gamecube horror game Eternal Darkness have emerged by way of a report on IGN, describing "Shadow of the Eternals" as being in the works at a new Canadian studio called Precursor Games.

Internet sleuthing courtesy of NeoGAF uncovered a google cache version of the studio's official website, that has since expired, but included the following synopsis of the game:
In Shadow of the Ancients, we follow the investigations of Detective Paul Becker, who is called to one of the bloodiest massacres in Louisiana state history. Only two survivors remain from a brutal conflict between two rival cults at the abandoned Pleasant View Sanitarium: one a suave, clean-cut business man – and the other a hardened, rogue-like biker.

Both men have seemingly lost all memory of who they are – and yet they are compelled to kill each other. As Becker begins his interrogations of the suspects, their combined recollections create the world of Shadow of the Ancients.

You play Paul Becker, a Louisiana police detective. You also play Clara Rusznyák, a handmaiden to the noblewoman, Erzébet Bathory.
The cached page also described the game as a series of 12 episodes with 2-4 hours of gameplay each, and features "sanity effects" in the vein of Eternal Darkenss.

The slip up appeared to prompt IGN to further reveal that Shadow of the Eternals is targeting PC and Wii U in late 2014, and that Silicon Knights', and Eternal Darkness lead, Dennis Dyack is serving as Chief Creative Officer on the game, and it is widely presumed that the Precursor Games team is largely comprised of former Silicon Knights staff.

A crowdfunding pledge drive is expected to kick off tomorrow, where we'll likely learn much more about the game and the people involved. Watch the trailer below.

Looks a lot like Eternal Darkness.

I expect this campaign to be uber-successful in backing. It'll likely make its target well before the expiry period because of the (no pun intended) cult status of the first game. And d***ish as he is, it's good to hear Dyack will be involved.

Dyack and Silicon Knights don't have a great track record of doing things on their own. Crystal Dynamics had to provide extra staff to get Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen finished, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem had Nintendo involved, and Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes was a collaboration between Konami, Nintendo, and Silicon Knights. Too Human and X-Men: Destiny are the only games where the publisher didn't get involved with the development, and neither game is good.
Crowdfunding a game by these guys is a risky move as they seem to need someone to keep them on track to deliver, and they can easily feed the public bulls*** while the actual game is a complete mess (like Aliens: Colonial Marines).

Yeah, as cool as Eternal Darkness was, theres no way I'd give these guys money before the game actually exists, not based on their recent track record (recent being the 10 years since Eternal Darkness).
