Developer Criterion Games has revealed that the studio has no plans for any new racing titles, including Burnout, Need for Speed or Road Rash. Creative director Alex Ward took to Twitter to reveal the news, stating that "After over a decade of making racing games it's time to make something new."

Ward continued in another Twitter post by saying that he was proud of his previous racing titles, but that the team is now planning on a new, non-racing title. Ward also ruled out a sequel to their previous non-racing title, Black, which was released on PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2006. "No Black2 either folks. Volumes to tell on that topic, but will save that for when I get a book deal..."

While this doesn't mean the end of the Burnout series from Criterion, Ward revealed that "when it feels right we will make another one. We are creative people." The creative director also stated that it is "early days" for their new non-racing title, with nothing yet to announce.

They definitely need to make another Road Rash.

Black was an awesome game for it's time, right in the final months of the original Xbox. A sequel would have been yawn in today's oversaturation of modern military shooters, so I'm not at all bummed about that, but will definitely be keeping an eye out for whatever else they might come up with.
