Trion Worlds has today announced that their cross-media and multi-platform title Defiance is now available on Australian retail shelves. The MMO will see various tie-ins with the soon-to-be-launched TV Show of the same name on the Syfy network, offering players the chance to tune in and see their decisions change the show.
“We’re incredibly proud that after five years of development, we are bringing this ambitious project to life.” said Nathan Richardsson, VP of Development for Trion and Executive Producer of Defiance. “The game launch is just the beginning of a truly unique entertainment experience and, in a couple weeks’ time, you’ll be able to tune into Syfy to see the story unfold, the characters develop, and realize transmedia entertainment unlike ever before.”
Originally launching last week on digital avenues for PC, the new MMO has hit a few bumps with recent server issues and bugs but developer Trion has outlined through various blog updates that the team are working around-the-clock to ensure as stable of a gameplay experience as possible.

Syfy Network’s Defiance TV series which will premiere in Australia on Thursday April 18 at 9:30pm EST on SF, first on FOXTEL. Check out the launch trailer below.

Last night I watched the 'first fifteen minutes' preview of the TV show which is meant to tie in with this game, and nearly fell asleep.

I have been playing for over a week, I like the combat system, PVE story isn't bad.. Inventory management is terrible, no in game Auction house as far as i can see, you can buy guns with RL money so I can run around with a purple gun by buying a Tier 4 lockbox.. not really a fan of pay to gain advantage, tbh I dont know how the bought guns stack up against the guns you loot.

There is also no crafting system that I am aware of (might be something that comes further into the game?) its also kinda strange in that if you drive past somewhere you have completed a mission you can do the mission again..

I also found a bug where I completed a mission, DC'd before it gave me new mission then when i logged back in, it wanted me to do the mission again.. even though I have completed it and got the mission complete message on screen.

I love the use of vehicles in combat. has to be the funnest part of game. also the events that occur are pretty fun though they can be a bullet spungie, no really mechanics involved just point shoot, reload...

I think the game has a lot of potential but I cant help be feel like its rushed..

I've been playing it for less than 24hours, i'm enjoying it.

No crafting system... Haven't missed it yet, but the ability to craft mods would be nice.

It's like the system is there with the way you can break down items, but atm you just get slightly more cash then you would from a vendor.

The Missions are stock standard (get use to holding E). The story is pretty decent for an original IP

Vehicles are perfect... I did not expect them to handle and be used the way the do, you still get xp for killing mobs with vehicles, you lose out on loot however. You get your first Vehicle early on and its just a pleasure to be able to get around in these things.

Mods add great flexibility for customising your weapons the way you want.

Alot of people complain that its a b**** to swap out weapons, but this game is tailroed around only using 2 weapons in combat, personally i use a sniper rifle and an assault rife.

I start off by picking mobs off with 1 shot kill head shots, than as they agro i switch to assault and take them down from there.

I use dot mods and bio grenades to snare.

My biggest gripe would be how dead the chat channel is.. I've never seen an mmo with such an empty chat channel.

So the show aired Yesterday, it was pretty decent pilot episode some alright sci-fi action.

Set it the drama for the rest of the season, lots of lore and back story to develop on, hopefully they don't drag things on to much and keep the pace up.

The pre-episode missions in the game basically showed the events that happened to the 2 main characters prior to show. It fitted in ok... I wish they made some more references to the events in the game.

All in all worth watching.

I liked the characters and direction it was headed. CGI was pretty bad imo, some of it looked more like a video game cut scene than what I'd expect from a TV show. Seems a bit B grade but TBH that doesn't bother me too much. I take what I can get with these sci fi shows. I really miss having a Star Trek or Stargate series with like, aliens and missions and stuff, this may fill some of that void.

world after a massive war with aliens and cyborgs and s***, now they all live in this post apocalyptic world together. Defiance is a 'civilised' city where all the different races of robots, humanz and aliens live together. And also shoot things?

tldr - aliens and humanz and shootingz

It looks as dated as Babylon 5 (which was an awesome show btw).
Heck, I think Mass Effect 3 looked better than Defiance.

Actually I kind of thought it had a real Farscape feel to it with the CGI and costume design/makeup.
