The freshly shelved Star Wars 1313 action game, that was demoed showing the player descending into the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars Universe's planet-sized city of Coruscant as a bounty hunter, was reportedly being groomed as an adventure of the popular Star Wars character Boba Fett.

Accompanying some alleged unreleased concept art from the game, Kotaku claims that "a reliable source" informed them that the focus shift was handed down from Star Wars creator George Lucas himself.

Yesterday's announcement that LucasArts would cease developing games casts a doubtful future on the unfinished title, but it is still technically possible that Disney could license a third party to studio to see it to completion.

But everyone loves Boba Fett?
Perhaps I just find it difficult to believe 21st century George Lucas would be behind a tweak to the Star Wars canon that met with unanimous fan approval.

If its a leak of unreleased stuff, maybe it was someone whos really passionate about the project and thinks that if Disney sees how much the fans want the game, they'll put it back into production? Thats what I'm hoping anyway, cos I want to play that game.

It's impossible to tell, but leaks like this really give a sense that it's possibly an intentional testing of the waters, so-to-speak, by the publisher --giving permission for a staffer to reach out to the press in order to gauge community response to a concept -- then if the buzz it generated seemed big enough, they'd invest more resources into pursuing it.

I really don't buy the notion that Lucas himself stepped in and said, 'this game needs to be Boba Fett' though.

The way I expect it realistically played out, was that the devs came up with this cool concept for a game about Boba Fett, but the execs wouldn't blindly sign off on using that character due to his involvement in the direct story canon of the main Star Wars Universe.

Then, after the studio managed to put something together, and the e3 response was good, the brass (and Lucas) said 'ok, you can use Boba'.

But maybe I'm totally wrong, and it is just all how it's said to be.

Kickstarter? With an IP so heavily guarded? It's untouchable. :(

Come on, as if this doesn't tell you the game was in development hell and a mess, then what will....

Still the idea and the demo looked amazing and damn Disney. However how many games in development can get shifted to have a focus on a new character, especially such an iconic one. I bet this was clearly just a tech demo they were working on, not really sure where it was going.

I would much prefer a Boba Fett Bounty Hunter game then some no name Bounty Hunter guy that we see in 1313. I remember there was a Jango Fett game on the gamecube. I would pay AU retail price for a sandbox mission Boba Fett type of game. One where each mission is a large area and you can decide on how to approach it and gather Intel and such.

Well I'm pretty sure when it was announced even people thought it was secretly a boba fett game cos he had something to do with 1313 so I reckon its like Dan said and they were always making a boba fett game but just hadn't completely signed off on the character, so until that point it was just some un-named bounty hunter instead.

You kids need to learn about Jango Fett. You know, the guy they chose as a template for an entire clone army? Designed to kill jedi?

I'd play a ripping-apart-jedi-with-my-bare-hands simulator any day.
