We sit down with Ion Hazzikostas, Game Director of World of Warcraft, to discuss the launch of Dragonflight, WoW development, dragon-riding becoming a mainstay, and more.
Continuing the trend of April Fool's jokes turned real, Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet has revealed that their virtual reality simulator event Super Adventure Box will actually stay for the entire month of April.
The new event will add three levels of retro-styled platforming complete with cutting edge graphics offered in true 256-colour graphics which players can access by visiting Moto in Rata Sum. For those worried about taking a tumble falling damage has been turned off alongside all items and buffs to "minimize the impact of Tyrian technology and magic on the core edutainment concepts that Moto espouses."
“It started out as a fun side project idea. Originally, we were going to have a laugh with a fake 8-bit update, but the more the team worked on it the more we realised we had something really cool on our hands,” game director Colin Johanson said.
“We figured; the gaming community are really going to love this, let’s expand on the concept of the Living World in Guild Wars 2 and make it for real.”
The new levels will also allow players to obtain "baubles" by slaying varmints and exploring the virtual world of the Super Adventure Box. These baubles can be exchanged for various weapons and skills but are also used for "continue coins" which are essentially extra lives that allow you to continue playing after dying.
To help your adventures inside the box, a new page has been revealed on the official website alongside a FAQ to help your sleuthing needs. ArenaNet has also showcased a very retro TV commercial which should bring back memories for those who remember the old NES days which you can check out below.
